Summer hols in the Dordogne (and Lot), possibly my fave part of France I've visited so far. Fairytale turreted buildings, stunning scenery, wild swimming and, of course, French bangers!! What's not to like? We spent two weeks in blistering 40deg heat and nearly died whilst watching the Tour de France due to lack of water (and we brought gallons, too). The elite Gendarmerie decided against shooting at us when when thought we would 'beat the crowds' and leave stage 13 early...only to discover the race hadn't finished! It was one of those moments where I curled up in the back of the car whispering 'warm safe place, warm safe place' to myself. I fully expected a 'helicopter view' news report as our car sent riders diving in to hedges to escape the mad English. The rest of our days were thankfully less eventful but equally thrilling. I saw swords buried into rock faces (at Rocamadour), prehistoric art at Pech Merle, visited the prettiest place in France and I ran each day though fields of corn as the early morning sun gently warmed the steaming river Lot. Fan-fucking-tastic!
