The Bryce is right

America is celebrating 100 years of its National Park service and as we criss cross the central states we have taken the opportunity to visit some. In Japan you have to get up in the middle of the night to beat the crowds, the US...less so but you have to be swift none the less. We have so far negotiated the heights of 'the watchman' in Zion NP, descended into the breath-taking canyon at Bryce NP, made contact with aliens at Devils Tower* and met four presidents carved into a mountain at Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park. The parks are stunning and awe inspiring, well worth the small amounts of money they charge for entry.

* Devils Tower is the monument from Close Encounters.
